Laser Links and Wireless Bridges introduction.

With hundreds of laser links, wireless bridges and microwave links installed from the UK to New Zealand and Australia Laserbandwidth has the depth, experience and ability to deploy your network link successfully.

At the cutting edge of our technology we specialize in matching the best technology for you needs and location such as 54Mbps 5Ghz wireless bridges, 100Mbps full duplex microwave bridges, 1Gbps full duplex microwave bridges, 100Mbps full duplex laser links, 1Gbps full duplex laser links, auto tracking laser links, non line of sight wireless bridges.

Types of Links.

You have mainly four types of links to consider Laser Links,  Microwave Links, Wireless Bridges, and Non Line of Sight Wireless Bridges.

Laser Links:

Laser link technology has been around for 20 years or more in its present form and stretches back its technical history way back to the invention of the television.

The technology has evolved over the years and much more so in the last 5 years, becoming a very stable reliable communication medium delivering high speed fiber equivalent links at 100Mbps full duplex and 1Gbps full duplex. Laser links range from a few meters to several kilometers point to point - most popular links are 100m to 300m and 500m to 1000m.

Short range heads contain both a single transmitter (to send) and a receiver lens (to receive from the opposite head) this provides the full duplex connection. Longer range heads have more transmitters and a bigger receiver lens in each head. Buildings that have some movement can use an auto-tracking laser link, re-aligning itself continuously.

Laser Links provide full bandwidth all of the time unlike some wireless links, even a poor alignment will not reduce the connection speed until a full physical block is encountered in front of the head.

Laser heads maybe mounted on walls, roof tops or inside window to window (in some cases) and require mains power or 48vdc POE, cat5/6 or fiber to the head dependent on model.

All Laser Links need a full site survey (call for survey date 08701 124897 or email Sales@Laserbandwidth.com) to confirm line of sight, sturdy mounting location, bespoke bracket build, cable path and power supply options. We take care of all these details for you with risk assessments and method statements as required.

The Benefits:
There are many reasons why customers choose FSO wireless solutions

Licence-free operation
No need to obtain frequency licences for the operators of laser based wireless cabling solutions. Connections can be established as a ONE-TIME investment with no recurring costs.

Cost-effective:
Reduce your installation and lease line costs. This is a wireless installation - all lease line costs are eliminated giving you an incredibly quick return on your investment. Installation costs are minimized as there is no need for the costly installation of cables. Time is saved as there is no need to seek permissions for digging roads or obtaining special licenses.

Investment protection:
By using future proof fibre optic interfaces, the solution protects customer investments. The modular design of mean that most equipment can be easily and cost-effectively upgraded for greater bandwidth or distance.

No interference:
Because they use infrared light for communication, the performance of Wireless Cabling systems is not effected by electro-magnetic noises and is not subject to interference with traditional wireless devices.

High bandwidth:
Optical free space data transmission gives you the same bandwidth and speed of fixed optical fibre.

Secure data transmission:
Free space transmission is one of the safest transmission methods of its type because:
- Direct interception is virtually impossible with the concentrated beam and physical placement of the equipment-well above ground level.
- No instruments such as spectrum analyzers can detect the communication.

Quick installation:
A Wireless Cabling solution is quick and easy to deploy. All solutions are
plug and play.

Excellent price/performance:
Wireless Cabling systems have outstanding low cost per bit ratios.

Flexibility:
The Wireless Cabling systems are divided into distance ranges- customers select the system that matches their needs. They can be deployed in a wide variety of network architecture and mesh systems. They can be installed roof to roof, window to window, window to roof or wall to wall.

Microwave Links

Microwave Links vary from country to country typically 80Ghz Microwave in UK and 60Ghz/80Ghz NZ, Australia and USA. Microwave delivers similar quality to Laser Links with full duplex 100Mbps or 1Gbps connections however they tend to be slightly lighter units and can tolerate a little movement making them better to deploy in difficult locations where extra height maybe required or mounting locations are not as sturdy as concrete or brick.

Heads are matched to each other with a high level of security making them ideal for secure connections for MOD, Finance or Corporate.

Range is flexible from 100 meters to several kilometers for a stable link.

Choice of short range microwave over laser would typically be made on mounting options rather than price - longer range microwave links such as 1500 meters plus can become more viable economically above a laser.

Microwave heads maybe mounted on walls, roof tops, strong masts or inside window to window (in some cases) and require mains power or 24vdc, cat5/6 and or fiber to the head dependent on model.

All microwave links need a full site survey to confirm line of sight, mounting location, bespoke bracket build, cable path and power supply options. We take care of all these details for you with risk assessments and method statements as required.

Wireless Bridges.

We only work with 5Ghz wireless point to point bridges typically as a redundant backup to a Laser Link or Microwave, however, if budget is an issue and bridge bandwidth requirement is relatively low such as internet, IP CCTV, thin client or low number of users at the remote site a 5Ghz bridge may serve your purposes or at least until you can upgrade to a full Laser or Microwave utilising your initial investment as backup. A full connection speed would be in the region of 54Mbps half duplex (one way at any one time).

Bandwidth availability will vary from 6Mbps to 54Mbps dependent on range and weather conditions - higher powered radios are used for longer distances and can be tuned for optimum connection. Again links will be secure with WPA2-PSK security across the link as requires.

Links are flexible to install and will take some movement in the bracket and building. All Laserbandwidth professional heads use power over ethernet and have a spare network port with POE at the head should we need to bridge around corners.

Non Line of Sight Wireless.

For links that do not have a line of sight between the two points or have a near line of sight over a tree line for instance we can use a special wireless technology that can connect over these distances.

Bandwidth varies from 22Mbps to 300Mbps half duplex - this depends on model deployed, obstacle and distance.

Heads are similar in size to microwave and very flexible for deployment. We normally choose this technology when Laser and Microwave are just not possible - a full site survey is essential and in some cases a full site test with deployment of actual radios to abtain bandwidth statistics.
